Some water authorities have required that sprinkler systems be supplied by a separate water line from the public main. Why? Not for any reasons that we have seen as valid. The sprinkler and plumbing standards both allow a single pipe to supply both needs as long as they are large enough, so it is not difficult to show that this design alternative is acceptable.
